Tips for Decorating on a Budget

Happy Tuesday everyone! Something I was asked A LOT when we were living in the apartment was how I decorated it so cute while being on a budget. Obviously, since Jaden and I were just starting out AND getting pregnant so soon, we did not have all the money in the world so budgeting was important for us. However, I still wanted to decorate our little apartment and make it feel more at home.

When we first moved in, I HATED it. It was so noisy, we had horrible neighbors and the apartment itself wasn’t in the best shape. I tried to be humble and most of the time, I was fine, but being pregnant and dealing with everything was super stressful for me so it was important that I make our apartment as comfortable for us as possible.

I have to point out, my parents were a HUGE help when furnishing our apartment. My parents bought our dining table (from At Home) and they helped pay for half of our couch (from Living Space). This past Christmas, my parents gifted us with our coffee table because before, we were using the cheap little 4-foot foldable table and my mom couldn’t stand it! So I do have to give them some credit there but even though they did gift us with stuff, Jaden and I still had them buy our stuff from stores that were running deals and wouldn’t be crazy expensive!

Alright, now let’s get into it! Here are some tips on how to decorate on a budget:

1. ALWAYS look in the clearance section!

Home Goods and Target’s clearance sections were my best friend while living in the apartment, I’ll admit that 75% of the time, I did not find much but man, those times where you find that ONE item you have been waiting to enter the clearance shelf…it’s the BEST! I used to work at Target and a lot of that time, I spent in the Home section so I figured out that twice a year, Target will clearance out a ton of home stuff! How to know when those times are coming up? Well that’s my next tip…

-Also with Target…download the app AND get the Red Card! You save 5% every time you use your Red Card and you get free shipping online. When you use the Target App, you will always know what deals are going on and what they have on Cartwheel. I LOVE when they do the “Spend blank and get blank off”, I usually take advantage of those when they have them for home or groceries.

2. Ask the employees what they know!

Always get in good with the employees! At Target and Victoria’s Secret, we always knew in advance what promotions were going to be happening and if we really liked a customer, we would let keep them in the loop! At our Home Goods, we found out when the best days to go shopping were and when they got their shipments.

3. Always stick to neutral colors!

This is something I have had to learn over the years and it’s really helped me! I know by now that I get tired of color REALLY quick. For example, I will see a blue rug and I will ADORE it…for a week. Then I want a new one! And we all know rugs are super expensive!

So I have learned, that ESPECIALLY for high price tagged items, stick to neutral colors. You will keep them longer and won’t get sick of them as quickly. If I do want to add some color into my room, I do it with little decorations that do not cost a lot like pillow cases, little plants, or even throws.

4. Shop Around for the Best Deal!

Don’t be quick to buy furniture without shopping around first. Before buying anything, I spend like a few days researching numerous store to see who has the best deal on what I am looking for.

5. Some Things Can Be Bought USED!

I’ll be honest, I am not a fan of buying used and I rarely do it but I think my issue is I am super picky and I don’t like DIY projects because THB I am too lazy for that! However, I know a lot of people enjoy doing that and I SO wish I did because I would love to buy used items and repaint them or vamp them up!

I always browse through Facebook Marketplace and I find so many cute bookshelves, chairs, and other furniture!

The important thing to remember is what is okay to buy used and what’s not. Anything like couches, beds, pillows or appliances, I personally would never buy used. But things like bookshelves, tables, and chairs are totally okay!

6. Three Letters…D I Y!

Okay, so like I said, I am not a big “DIY” Person and I think it’s because I do not have a creative mind what-so-ever! I wish so badly that I did but I am hoping that once we move into our house, I will be inspired to get more creative and try more DIY’s.

If you are in touch with your creative side, I highly suggest looking up DIY’s. I recently found this girl who is the QUEEN of DIY’s and her Instagram handle is @frillsanddrills or you can check out her blog by clicking here. It is AMAZING what she does and she walks you through how to do everything!

7. Take Advantage of Those Holiday Sales!

When Jaden and I moved into our apartment, it was the beginning of November which means that Black Friday was right around the corner. We got most of our furniture around that time because we wanted to be able to take advantage of the Black Friday deals!

This time around, we are moving at the end of September so we JUST missed Labor Day deals. Luckily, some of our appliances are being held for us so we can pay for them after we close, that way we can still take advantage of those Labor Day deals.

If you are moving in around holiday’s where stores run their best deals, I highly suggest waiting to take advantage of them so you can get some furniture for a good deal! Especially the bigger pieces like appliances and couches!

Well there you have it! My best tips for decorating on a budget! I looked through all of my pictures to find as many pictures as I could of our apartment but turns out I never took ANY! I posted a ton in my Instagram Stories but I never saved them so this one above is the ONLY one I could find. This was our living room!

Couch was from Living Spaces. The white pillows are from Home Goods. The light blue pillows are from Target. The coffee table is from IKEA. The candle is from Bath & Body Works. The little plant is from Home Goods. Finally, the gallery wall frames are from Target!

Friday Favorites: Primpin’ Ain’t Easy

Happy Friday my loves! Today’s Friday Favorites is all about my favorite beauty-related things lately. This can be anything from beauty tips to what I use to shave. Yes, I am keeping it real on this blog!

Tinkle Eyebrow Razors – $4.80 (2 Pack) from Amazon

Like most women, I have hair on my face. I’ll admit it! I LOVE these little razors because they help get all of the annoying facial hair. I especially love using this for my upper lip. They work AMAZINGLY and they are so affordable! I highly recommend these!

Drybar Triple Sec 3-in-1 Finishing Spray – $26 from Sephora

I know you have heard me go on about this stuff a lot but I just discovered a new tip that I wanted to share with you guys involving dry shampoo! Typically, you spray dry shampoo in your hair when your hair is getting oily and you need to freshen it up without washing it. One of my favorite girls on Instagram (Her handle is @livingmybeststyle) said that she liked putting dry shampoo in her hair on the same day that she washes it because it’s not as oily the next few days. I decided to try it and sure enough, I noticed that my second day hair still felt like my first day hair.

Flamingo Women’s Five Blade Razor – $9.99 at Target

Back to body hair because ya know, it’s still summer and shaving has become apart of my daily shower regimen. This is my current razor and I absolutely love it! I have probably been using this razor since Flamingo came into Target. My favorite part about it is that you buy this set for $10 and then you just have to buy the replacement cartridges. I think they are 4 for $8.99.

CeraVe Moisturizing Cream – $11.99 at Target

So for YEARS I have used Bath & Body Works lotions until I decided that I wanted to put something better on my skin. I love that they smell so yummy but I hated the thought of putting so much “fragrance” on my skin. I learned that so many nasty chemicals can hide behind the “fragrance” ingredient and that it kind of scared me. I started looking for a better alternative and I found this stuff. I LOVE it! I also really like the Facial Moisturizer by CeraVe so I have been using that as well!

Also, I do not buy mine from Target. I buy mine from Costco because I am pretty sure it is like $11.99 for a 2 pack at Costco (don’t quote me on this though), but if you have a membership, I highly suggest buying it from there!

Bio Oil 2 oz Bottle – $8.99 at Target

If you are a mama or an expecting mama dealing with stretch marks and itchy skin, I HIGHLY suggest buying this stuff! I did not have stretch marks my whole pregnancy and then they appeared right after giving birth. I have been using this stuff on them since having Lexi and it has helped so much! Of course, it doesn’t just magically get rid of them, but I would never expect them to just go away. It does help ease them though and keep your belly nice and moisturized!

Also, I like to use this by mixing it with my CeraVe cream. I get some of the cream and drop a few drops of the Bio Oil in it, mix it together in my hands and then apply it to my skin! Works wonders!!

My Current Favorite Hair Products

Happy Wednesday everyone! Today’s post is all about my favorite kind of beauty products and that is HAIR PRODUCTS!

I am a sucker for hair products and my hubby will tell you…I probably have way too many but honestly…I feel like you can never have too many hair products so…

I want to talk about all of my current faves lately because I am super confident about all of these products and now that I am officially one year postpartum, I feel like my hair is finally returning back to normal, aside from these baby hairs…holy moly these BABY HAIRS!

So let’s jump right into it…

BUMBLE AND BUMBLE HAIRDRESSER’S INVISIBLE OIL, $40 (ulta)

Okay, so I bring this one up first because it has officially entered my shrine of holy grail products! I was skeptical, I have to admit, because I was using a Redken hair oil before which I was not super crazy about but I used it until I ran out and was on the hunt to try something new. I figured this would work similar to the Redken one but oh. Em. Gee! It is AMAZING. I cannot believe the difference it has made on my hair since I started using it! I know it is a little pricey, believe me, I was back and forth about it because of the price but I bit the bullet and bought it and I am so happy that I did! It is SO worth it, in my opinion!

How I use this: After I get out of the shower, I put like half-a-dime size amount in my palm and put it all over my hair. Then, I put any other products in that I feel like using that day. After that, I blow dry it and style it! It seriously leaves your hair so smooth, soft and healthy looking! It is the best!

DRYBAR PREP RALLY PRIME + PREP DETANGLER, $23 (drybar)

If you guys don’t already know, I am a big Drybar fan! I have loved Drybar products since I started using their products years ago. I love trying new things from them and was so excited to finally use this! I have to be honest, I have never been disappointed by any of their products so I expect a lot every time I buy a new one and this one joins the list of favorites!

This stuff not only detangles, but it also protects your hair from heat so you it’s like a 2-in-1 which I really like! Normally, I use my IGK Mistress Hair Balm (which you will hear about next) and my Chi Iron Guard but lately, I have only had to use this which is nice.

IGK MISTRESS HYDRATING HAIR BALM, $29 (sephora)

I have mentioned this quite a bit in my Instagram Stories because I am in love with it and I have had so many people reach out to me saying they went out and bought it because I have raved about it so much! (*cough* IGK PR Team, I’m right here! Wink wink!) This stuff smells SO good and it makes my hair super soft and keeps the frizziness away after blow drying my hair which is amazing! I also love that it is a leave-in conditioner because I do not condition my hair a lot so I can depend on this stuff to help with the tangles.

AMIKA FLUXUS TOUCHABLE HAIRSPRAY, $25 (sephora)

Amika is a brand that I have recently started trying and I am so surprised that I had not tried it sooner because not only is there packaging super cute but I am also loving their products! Hairspray is something that I do not stress about too much because in all honesty, I haven’t really been totally WOW-ed by a hairspray yet. I also do not like the way most hairsprays smell so it makes me mad when I use all these other products that make my hair smell amazing only to be ruined by bad smelling hairspray. That is, until this one! I really like the way this one smells and I do like the hold!

DRYBAR DETOX DRY CONDITIONER, $23 (sephora)

Shocker, another Drybar product! My holy grail dry shampoo is by Drybar so I definitely wanted to try the dry conditioner too. I bet you’re wondering…what is the difference between dry conditioner and dry shampoo? The answer is pretty straight forward actually and it’s simply the same as the difference between shampoo and conditioner. Dry conditioners have similar benefits to regular conditioners that you would use in the shower. In my honest opinion, I do still prefer the dry shampoo over the dry conditioner but I will continue to use this until it is gone because I do still like it!

KRISTIN ESS INSTANT LIFT VOLUMIZING MOUSSE, $14 (target)

So this is a product that I actually used a while back when it first came out, forgot about it, found it, tried it again and love all over again! I actually bought this back before I got pregnant. Shortly after finding out I was pregnant, I got super sick and it took me months before I actually styled my hair or put on makeup again so I was out of the beauty game for awhile! My hair is super thin and can fall totally flat if I don’t use any volumizing products so I was so happy when I found this in my stash.

How I use it: Before blow drying my hair, I will put a little over a marble size amount in my hand and spread it through only certain areas of my hair. Specifically the areas that need more volume. I will say, you have to be SUPER careful with this stuff because using too much will make your hair feel super heavy and almost “dirty”. That’s the only downfall about this product but once you learn how to properly use it on your hair, I promise it is awesome and does exactly what it needs to do!

If you have any hair products that you swear by, please let me know! I LOVE trying new hair products and am always open to try something new!
